The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will stop in Idaho Falls on Friday, Nov. 6, for a free public event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the City of Idaho Falls announced. The event will be held in the Idaho Falls Public Library parking lot and along Capital Avenue.
The City of Idaho Falls, Idaho Falls Power and the Idaho Falls Public Library are hosting the event with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, including the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, and the Society of American Foresters, according to the announcement.
Visitors can see the 76-foot Engelmann spruce, listen to live music, take part in winter crafts and stories, make ornaments for the tree’s trip to Washington, D.C., and visit educational and interactive booths about Idaho’s national forests, the city said. Idaho Falls Power will provide winter treats, according to the announcement.
The tree was selected from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and is traveling through communities in Idaho and beyond before reaching the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the city said. The Architect of the Capitol’s team will decorate it with thousands of handcrafted ornaments made by Idaho residents before the tree-lighting ceremony in early December, according to the announcement.
The city said more information about the Idaho Falls stop and activities will be announced as the event approaches. For media inquiries, contact City of Idaho Falls Public Information Officer Hayli Egbert at (208) 612-8562, the announcement said.
